In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart - Ruth Graham

T
he beauty of this book is that it releases freedom in the reader. It encourages truthful relationships within the body of Christ concerning many of the issues which cause pain in our lives.

It is first and foremost a personal testimony, moving and honest. The author is part of a well-known Christian dynasty and refers to this throughout her story. She does not flinch from giving us a picture of the impact of marital breakdown on her life, and those of her family.

The book is also a study guide and teaching aid - each chapter is summarised at the end, notes a key scripture verse, and gives practical tips for those who minister to others. A key phrase about the nature of God, on which to reflect, is really useful.

The style of the book is to ask questions, making it thought-provoking and meditative, rather than a “quick read”. As I read the book I imagined the author to be very compassionate, while remaining focused on completing her task.

This book is forged out of the deeply personal experience of its author, who continually returns the reader to the constant faithfulness and mercy of Father God, and to the solid rock of His word. There is reassurance for all of us that only in our Father’s arms is to be found true restoration and acceptance.
