A
ll of us at different times in our lives need to call upon others for help.

This might be because of illness, an accident, a change in circumstances, growing old or just because we haven't a clue how to do, what to others is a simple task. In the majority of cases help will be just a phone call away, made to family, friends or a local tradesperson. However we are aware that that is not always the case, that at times people might not have someone to turn to when help and support is most needed. That is where God's Gloves comes into action. At West we want to support each other like a family, ready to share in practical ways, ready to be there, available to help those in need.

So what sort of services do we see ourselves offering? Well there are some that might quickly come to mind, driving folk to doctor/hospital appointments, supplying meals when the main provider is ill, doing the weekly shopping while someone's broken leg heals. When a few folk put their heads together they came up with more unusual ways to support those in need. Walking a dog or feeding the cat while their owner is in hospital, hanging out the washing for someone badly affected by arthritis, helping with ironing, thereby freeing a mum to look after her sick child. Other suggestions were helping someone fill in a form or showing another how to order their groceries online so they could have them delivered to the door. The list could go on but we hope you have picked up the sort of things we envisage doing.

We are aware that those in need are often the last people to want to ask for help. We are depending upon you to tell them of God's Gloves and to encourage them to use us. We have a mobile phone number, shown above right. This is exclusive to God's Gloves. If you require help, or you know of someone else who does, please phone and leave a message. Briefly outline the need and leave a name and contact number. Someone in turn will get back to you as soon as possible.

We look forward to serving God following the advice from 1 John 3 verse 18, 'Our love should not be just words and talk; it must be pure love which shows itself in action.'

God's Gloves - practical support in times of need.

Volunteer for God's Gloves

At the moment we are in the process of putting together a database of people who would have the desire and time to serve in this way. They decide how they want to serve, they tell us when they are free and how often they want to be contacted. While we definitely do not want to put trades people out of a job we feel that it would be good to have the names of retired or unemployed people who have training and skills that they would be happy to use for small jobs around the house. If you wish to volunteer please contact Jayne Fulton through the church office.
