Calling all 5 to 8 year olds!
There are actually 20 now but there’s still room for more if you want to join us – we would really like to meet you.
You have to be 5 before 31 December and under 8 years of age – that’s all. We meet every Thursday at 6.45pm and finish at 7.45pm but we pack a lot into that hour. The boys have a great time playing lots of different games, doing craftwork, learning more about Jesus by listening to Bible stories and sometimes watching a video. They are also working for our Anchor Achievement Badge and competing for some trophies because when we are too old for Anchor Boys we are promoted to the Junior Section...
Thefollowing chart indicates the main aspects of the Junior Section within the BB Company.
We meet on a Thursday night from 6:30pm – 7:45pm. If you would like to know more, please contact the church office.
Each year around 30 boys register in the
company section with nearly a full turn out every week and a good spread
of boys ranging from 11 to 17 years of age.
The boys have been having inter-squad competitions in football, uni-hoc, indoor cricket, even the odd game of touch rugby, and have been taking badge classes in Crime Prevention and First Aid. In the past the boys all undertook instruction from the St Johns Ambulance in CPR with the opportunity to practice on a “Resusci-Ann” doll.
Each year we attend the annual Bangor District Church Service at Hamilton Road Presbyterian.
In October some boys take part in a Belfast Battalion Orienteering Competition at Cairn Wood. We have had some success in the age 14 and under pairs and the age 15+ pairs. Some have taken part in a battalion coarse fishing competition on the Bann at Portglenone to try and win the Battalion Cup. Even when they don't win, all still enjoy the challenge!
The badges the boys’ work for, and the activities which earn them credits towards the badge, are as follows:
Target 1 & 2 for Boys in their first year in Company Section:
Having achieved all these badges the boy’s can then go on to complete first of all their PRESIDENTS BADGE followed by the highest award the QUEENS BADGE. During their badge work they are also completing work towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
As you can imagine we could always use some help if we are to offer as wide a variety of work as possible, so if you have any expertise in any of the areas mentioned please do not hesitate to contact our Captain.
Why not join us? New members are always welcome!
Look forward to seeing you there!
