About Us | Staff Profiles
The following is a short profile of the Church's Staff Team.
All are involved in the work of the Church in different ways, each using their gifts for a common purpose.
Rev. Charles McMullen became minister of the congregation in April 1999. He leads the pastoral team, which meets weekly for prayer, planning and discussion as well as lunch! Charles enjoys his teaching ministry as well as being alongside people. He works in conjunction with the elders to provide overall vision and direction for the Church. His favourite Bible text is John 3:30, “He must increase; I must decrease”. Altogether his emphasis is very much on sharing the love of Christ with others.
Mr Lindsay Conway is our Clerk of Session and tries to hold together our elders’ meetings! As a congregation we value his wisdom and commonsense. He is very much a steady hand at the helm, who is always willing and available to help. He has a tremendous capacity for people. Lindsay works for the Presbyterian Church in Ireland as Secretary to the Board of Social Witness The Board of Social Witness
Mrs Gillian Caughey is our Director of Worship. In our church services we attempt to combine the best of traditional and contemporary approaches. We have a Choir and various singing groups. Gillian is a second generation organist, who, as an expression of her own openness and versatility, also delights in playing lively choruses or creating her own compositions! She expresses her service in many ways, drawing up praise rotas or coming alongside team members with pastoral concerns. She plays on Sundays, is available for weddings and funerals. Gillian loves worshipping!
Mr Stephen Cully is our Church Co-ordinator and works full-time. In a large congregation with so many activities and organisations, it is hardly surprising that there is such a large administrative task. Stephen works steadily and faithfully, conscientiously and energetically behind the scenes to ensure that the various jigsaw pieces of West somehow fit together into the full picture. He oversees many issues relating, for example, the planning and finance, the arrangement of special events and the promotion of advertising material as well as our various publications.
Mr Peter Douglas is our Assistant Minister and has been full-time with us since completing his studies in June 2010. He has a big heart for people and the gift of drawing alongside newcomers to the Church. Peter is involved in many aspects of the life of West and has had a particular role in developing our Crèche. He has also devoted considerable time and energy to our home groups. His passion is increasingly discipleship –equipping followers of Christ to serve and reach out to others.
Mr Andy Galbraith has been full-time with us since June 2011 as our second Assistant Minister. He has already endeared himself to us as a willing and enthusiastic member of our team. Andy has taken an interest in developing our Alpha Course and has made a wonderful contribution to youth ministry. He is excited at the prospect of developing Café Church, a radically different expression of service as it reaches out to those with no Church background.
Rev. Jim Hagan is a retired Presbyterian minister, who spends two days a week in West, visiting the housebound and helping in the prayer ministry. Jim is very much an evangelist, who uses every opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Sonia Mawhinney took up her duties as full-time Youth and Children’s Associate in October 2011. We have a large number in our Sunday School and Young West as well as our various uniformed organisations, crèche and Mums and Toddlers. Sonia will be casting vision for this entire area, looking at existing programmes and implementing new ones. She is very competent and has a lovely, winsome approach. We are hoping to employ a second person in this area to complement and supplement Sonia’s work.
Mrs Elaine Ward and Mrs June Farmer are our two office secretaries.
Mr Ken Macartney is our Church Officer, who has the unenviable task of maintaining our sanctuary and halls in pristine condition. Given the constant use of our facilities, this is constant work. Ken is always willing to go the extra mile. He is the earliest riser of the entire team!
